DIY: Glitter Polish

Yes…you read correctly, I’m going to show you how to make your own glitter nail polish!  As you probably know, I am a HUGE fan of nail polish.  I paint my nails 4-5 times a week.  So, instead of spending tons of money on glitter polish, I wanted to see if it would be easy to make my own, and it was!

I chose to do a blue glitter since that is what I seemed to be lacking.  I’m also going to give yellow a try soon, and I’ll blog about that one as well!

Here is the end result:

Supplies:

1 bottle of clear nail polish (I used NYC clear topcoat)

glitter (any kind you like!) I like to use very fine glitter with some chunkier glitter mixed in.  I have a ton of glitter I purchased using coupons at Michael’s.  I refuse to buy any crafts if I don’t have a coupon, so I got this glitter (along with about 12 other colors) for pretty cheap.

You can also use a few drops of color with your glitter to give it a more opaque look.  I chose to use Ulta’s Bam-Blue-Zled.

..and i just have to show you how pretty the glitter is via insane mega close-up!

Disclaimer: I want to say as a recent nail biter, I apologize for the lack of beautiful nails you are about to see.

STEP 1:

Take a half full bottle of clear nail polish and if you like, tint it with a few drops of your colored nail polish.

STEP 2:

Using a creased paper, pour your glitter into the clear polish until the bottle is about 3/4 full.  This was the hardest part for me due to the large quantity of coffee I had in my system which resulted in very shaky hands.  So, don’t drink coffee right before doing this or you will make a mess.  Lesson learned.

STEP 3:

Give it a good shake!  In fact, next time, I might even try and buy some small metal beads or balls and drop 1 or 2 in the bottle.  It was quite a work out getting the glitter to mix!

The best part about this craft is how quick and customizable it is!  It took about 10 minutes, and my brain kept coming up with crazy color combinations!

There you go!  I hope you enjoyed this little DIY, and I would love to know if you end up making some!
